A busy month

Hey all, a lot has happened in the last month and I'll try and keep this nice and tight just like the kids wear their jeans these days.

In short, On the Saturday "crazy’s group ride" there was a fist fight. Someone put some money up for grabs and everyone acted like it was the final stage in the Tour de France. I wasn't there to see it first hand but I've witnessed some fights in cycling shoes and it's like listening to a couple tap dancers tapping around and then they end up rolling around on the ground hugging each other until someone smashes into them with their bike to break them up. Well, usually a bike wouldn't smash into a fight but that was the way this one ended.

On January 15th I had surgery on my back. 2 herniated discs, 5 bulging, 2 annular tears and stenosis on my spine. The surgery was only scheduled for an hour but it was a mess in there and the doc needed a little over 2 hours to get it all cleaned up. A visual - I had a piece of a disc that broke off and was hanging around nerves where it wasn't supposed to be and it calcified to my spine.

This is a pic of me and Kristi (aka nurse kk) just before surgery and soon after this the anesthesiologist came in and gave me a taste of the good stuff. I was like...is this the stuff that's going to knock me out? He said no but then I started to feel a little goofy and that was it, I don't remember anything but waking up a few hours later that seemed like minutes.

Now I have a nice scar on my back and here is a pic of it post op. They glued me together and now there is a nice bump on my spine and its a little nasty but should go down in a few months.

I also watched the ING marathon where 3 of my girls were running the full 26.2 miles. Considering we only had 6 weeks to prepare for this race we had 2 personal bests from Noemi and Aileen and a breakthrough performance from Kristi so all the girls did fantastic. During the race I would have loved to have ridden my bike around following my girls with food, water or anything they need but with my back riding a bike wasn't an option. So I drove my car all over Miami to different parts of the course taking pics along the way with some video. It's not easy taking pics and video at the same time but I managed.

Soon I'm starting therapy and looking forward to seeing if this surgery really worked. I'm going to start riding "a" bike soon (meaning a comfy one that is less stressful on my back) so hopefully I will see some of you out on the road.

Untill next time and keep the rubber side down!
